Windsor Clive Primary School's Special Resource Base (SRB) classes provide a supportive, inclusive environment where students can thrive while still being part of the larger school community, bridging the gap between specialist and mainstream education.
We have 2 SRB classes on site, with a generous outdoor area, direct access to 'Y Nook Natur' and a large sensory space. Each of our SRB classes has capacity for 10 pupils and provides a higher adult to child ratio, with three members of staff in each class. We operate a 'stage not age' approach to provide a more tailored and flexible learning environment, with a focus on meeting the individual needs of all students.

Our SRB1 Class offers a nurturing, play-based environment where children can thrive at their own pace. We focus on developing key skills of communication, interaction, engagement and independence through engaging multi-sensory activities that support children's learning and social development.
By combining play, exploration, and targeted support, we help each child develop their unique strengths and abilities in a safe and inclusive space. Our holistic approach ensures that children's emotional, social, and cognitive development is supported every step of the way, helping them build a strong foundation for future learning and life.

We thrive on routines and structure in SRB 1 - enjoying chances to learn and play through Intensive Interaction, with regular snacks and opportunities to get outdoors. During our group times we learn through songs and rhymes, develop our language and vocabulary skills, and engage with specific interventions such as Attention Autism. Every day is a new chance for children to learn and grow.

The SRB follows generally the same pattern as the SRB 1 although there are opportunities for the older learners to integrate with their mainstream year group. The SRB2 learners also have daily shared play experiences in the outside area alongside the SRB 1. We have a daily snack time and frequent opportunities to play /learn outdoors.
There is a sensory play area / quiet learning area in the corridor between both SRBs.
The SRB is developing a Social Communication, Emotional Transition and Transactional Support (SCERTS) approach in partnership with the Local Authority and other specialist settings.
All learners live within the local area and follow the same times as the rest of the school etc. The learners are generally older than those in SRB1 although, as in SRB2, learners are placed according to a ‘Stage not Age’ approach.
The SRB puts emphasis on opportunities for learning and playing through Interaction. All the learners have very different needs but a holistic approach ensures that children's emotional, social, language and cognitive development is supported alongside the development of life skills.
