School of Sanctuary

As a school we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment that benefits everybody, including anyone in our community who may be seeking sanctuary. We aim to help pupils, staff, parents and the wider community to understand what it means to seek sanctuary, and to extend a welcome to everyone regardless of their background.

We have proudly held School of Sanctuary status since 2023 and continue to build on this achievement by ensuring our school remains a place of safety, acceptance and inclusion for everyone.

Our recent ESTYN report recognised these values, praising our school as a:

"caring and inclusive community where leaders and staff are committed to ensuring that all pupils are supported to succeed."

Refugee Week

We take part in Refugee Week every year. Each year group explores refugee, asylum and migration issues, introduced through an age-appropriate text and related activities.

Across the school, all learners share messages of welcome and support for sanctuary seekers and are encouraged to ‘Make a Connection’ by building friendships with new peers.
